Am I a Good Candidate for Adult Orthodontics?
Your candidature for adult orthodontics depends on whether you have misaligned teeth. Patients with slightly or moderately misaligned teeth will benefit most from clear aligners. While those with severe misalignments will benefit from metal braces. The dentist will examine your teeth and take X-rays to determine your candidacy for orthodontic treatments.
It’s also worth noting that even the elderly (above 70 years old) qualify for adult orthodontics, provided they have healthy gums and sufficient jaw bone. The only people who may be unfit for these treatments are those with gum disease, specifically peri-implantitis. However, the dentist can arrange for treatment before fitting your orthodontic device.
What Is the Difference Between Braces and Invisalign?
Although braces and Invisalign do the same job, they are very different. For starters, Invisalign braces are clear aligners that patients wear over their teeth for a specific period every day, meaning you can remove them at will. Conversely, braces are fixed permanently to your teeth and are only removed once treatment concludes.
Another difference is that braces are clearly visible on the teeth. Even ceramic braces with ceramic brackets are still visible. Invisalign aligners, on the other hand, are transparent and less discreet on the teeth, making them the perfect choice for individuals who would feel self-conscious with braces on.
